Fresh air, pretty foliage and soft, plush grass all make for a pleasant outside environment where people can get together to enjoy each other and the outdoors. People and nature belong together — and the New Garden Landscaping & Nursery experts pride themselves on building outdoor spaces where people can relax and entertain.
New Garden has valued providing sustainable outdoor spaces to inspire outdoor living since 1977 and continues to offer innovative landscape options. The full-service landscape design, installation and maintenance company provides comprehensive services, outdoor living products and a multitude of gardening resources to the Piedmont Triad area.
“Our passion is to help people create sustainable landscapes they love that help promote a healthy outdoor lifestyle and increase people's enjoyment of their homes,” said Jeff Adams, New Garden’s irrigation service manager.
In addition to lawn care and landscape installation, New Garden provides a diverse selection of services. Their website has resources such as planting calendars, free garden tips, information on workshops and other expert advice. But some of New Garden’s most helpful services involve new ways people can enjoy their landscape sustainably.
“Water is one of our greatest natural resources. We can help preserve that resource while still maintaining beautiful landscapes — if we do it efficiently,” Adams said.
Installing smart irrigation systems is one way New Garden is helping Triad Area residents water their landscapes sustainably.
The experts at New Garden are NC Licensed Irrigation Contractors and have years of experience working with irrigation systems. They recommend updating old irrigation systems to smart irrigation systems for a number of reasons.
For starters, these upgraded irrigation systems can help reduce water usage and water bills. “Upgrading to smart technology can help cut water consumption by up to 50%,” Adams said.
Smart irrigation systems also control when and how much to water landscaping based on weather. “Smart or Wi-Fi-based controllers are a great tool that we are using. These controllers use forecasted weather and weather data from various platforms to determine the amount of water needed to sustain plant material viability,” Adams said.
Adams also explained that New Garden offers evaluations and irrigation systems servicing for smart controller upgrades and other system maintenance and repair needs.
“As far as upkeep goes, smart controllers may need some adjustments with run times and frequency throughout the year, and these adjustments can be made easily through an app on a smartphone or computer,” Adams said.
New Garden suggests that all irrigation systems should be checked at least once a year for issues such as head adjustments and possible leaks.
New Garden is working on many ways to help create eco-friendly, enjoyable outside spaces. “Smart irrigation is just one part of our goal for more sustainable landscapes. We also provide energy-saving, low-voltage landscape lighting solutions and are beginning to phase battery-powered equipment into our production process,” Adams said.
