UHRICHSVILLE — The city administration is trying to stop unnecessary truck traffic on N. Water Street Extension.

Mayor Mark Haney told City Council at its Thursday meeting that no-through-trucks signs have been posted at W. McCauley Drive, on Johnson Avenue at Eastport Road and at the city limits at Midvale.

Only trucks making deliveries and those from XPO Logistics will be permitted on the N. Water Street Extension because the business is located there, Haney said.

"There shouldn't be any trucks coming from any gravel pits through there," he said. "They can get on the highway."

He said letters will be sent to several businesses known to route trucks through the area. He said drivers will be cited after a 15-day grace period.

Three residents of N. Water Street Extension complained about loud, heavy truck traffic on the road. Two people said it had damaged their homes. One man said the road needs paving and permanent repair because water comes onto his porch.

• Heard Haney say the water park made about $21,000 during its opening weekend. Monday saw 1,495 patrons and gross receipts of $14,883, he said, adding that the concession stand did well.

• Approved the mayor's plan to do blade patching on Johnson Avenue, then give it a chip-and-seal coating at a total cost around $14,000.

• Renewed a depository agreement with First National Bank of Dennison.

• Referred to its safety commitee a proposal for AEP Ohio to take over maintenance of 34 street lights on N. Water Street.

"It's a nighmare for us on maintenance," Haney said.

The company would pay the city $17,262, and would install more efficient lighting, he said. The switch to "smart lighting" would save the city money on electricity, according to Haney. The new lights would be dimmable and would send signals to the company when they burned out.
