Bringing the indoors outside is a wonderful way to entertain. We are fortunate to have four seasons… just when we think we have one figured out another one comes along.

Make the most of the views your property has to offer. Create designated areas that feel like rooms. Depending on the size of your yard, this can vary from one to many. You can use outdoor rugs, containers, dining tables, vines and florals to define these areas. Even an area with two chairs and a small table invites people to enjoy nature.

If you’re not lucky enough to be near a lake or river, water features are a good idea. They are available in many sizes from those that fit in a bird bath to larger varieties that would fit in a pond. The sound of water, even a trickle, is very relaxing.

Let’s not forget the fire pit. These can be self-contained units, metal rounds or simply large stones placed in a circle. Make sure you have comfortable seating and supplies for smores.

If you don’t have enough chairs, maybe you have some tree stumps that would work great. Try tossing rosemary or sage into the fire to keep bugs at bay, it works great. Keep blankets on hand for when the temperature dips.

Outdoor lighting is essential such as outdoor lanterns, candles, string lights and even chandeliers. These can be used on your patio or in shady areas of your garden. You can light up trees or fences further out in the yard. Pathway lights also are a good way to define areas and make walkways safer.

Music can also play an important part in your outdoor entertaining. It helps guests relax and also sets the tone for a party. With wireless technology it’s easy to set up speakers.

Setting up the dining area in close proximity to the kitchen or grill will help make the process easier for you. Use trays to transport your food and grilling supplies.

There are many fun ways to display beverages such as rolling bar carts, galvanized tubs, outdoor coolers and refrigerators. As long as the drinks are cold and tasty, everyone will be happy. This is also a great place for ice, dishes, glassware, cutlery and napkins. Make sure you have covered garbage containers handy for everyone.

Enjoy the great outdoors during our beautiful summer season.
