This three-bedroom Dutch Colonial is listed for $795,000.

I recently spent my birthday weekend in Hudson, New York, a small city just over two hours north of New York City, which is known for being an artsy place with lots of antique shops, independently-owned businesses, historic houses, and a large LGBTQ+ community.

It’s also a bit of a sleepy town, since many places are closed on Sunday or Monday, and there are only a couple of bars that stay open late (shout out to Lawrence Park), but there’s still plenty to do. You can stroll down Warren Street, where you’ll find stores like The Spotty Dog Books & Ale, a charming bookstore that serves craft beers; Poured Candle Bar, where you can have a drink and make a candle; and boutiques like Hudson Home and Batterby House (with places like this, it makes sense some consider it the Brooklyn of the Hudson Valley). At the far end of town, there’s a waterfront park, and if you have time, I recommend Art Omi, a sculpture park less than 20 minutes away in Ghent.

There’s also plenty of good restaurants (I ate my way through the weekend). For a bite, check out Lil’ Deb’s Oasis (the octopus tostada is delicious), Red Dot for a casual vibe (there’s a nice back patio), Swoon (try the short rib and fried artichokes), and Le Gamin Country.

When it comes to buying a house here, the median sales price is $240,000, according to Realtor.com. You can find houses within walking distance of downtown, including some fixer uppers and historic places, and houses farther out with pools and lots of land.
