The 2022 Mercedes-Maybach GLS brings new meaning to the term "luxury SUV."
The regular Mercedes-Benz GLS is no basic model in itself, being the SUV equivalent of the renowned luxobarge, the S-Class. The Maybach version takes the luxury and refinement to a new level. As you might expect, the Maybach GLS does not come cheap, with a list price of $160,500.
Maybach as a brand was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach. The company was brought back to life in the early 2000s with the release of two models based on the S Class, the 57 and the 62. The brand fell out of favor, and in the 2010s production was cut. As is the case today, Maybach was relaunched as a Mercedes-Benz sub-brand named Maybach-Mercedes. The Maybach GLS 600 is an important diversification within the range, given the insatiable current demand for luxury SUVs. Here are some of the car's coolest features.

As standard, the car is fitted out with a bench seat. However, opt for the optional upgraded individual luxury rear seats, and you will be treated to a private jet style experience. The front seats can be moved forward at the touch of a button, providing increased legroom in the rear. The rear seat also reclines to increase comfort, and a calf rest even extends as this takes place.
In comparison to an S Class or any other luxury sedan, the raised ride height of the Maybach GLS gives you a commanding view of your surroundings.
A control tablet can be found docked between the two rear seats. The range of functions that can be adjusted is vast. From improving the comfort of the rear seats to changing the driver's infotainment setup.
The mood lighting color can even be adjusted from the device, to suit the rear passenger's preferences.
Raising the luxury stakes is an integrated champagne cooler. Large enough to accommodate around 3 bottles, the cooler is a welcome addition for those in the rear.
Of course, to enjoy the bubbles at their best, a champagne flute is required. Fortunately, Mercedes have catered for this by including a designated holder and silver-plated champagne flutes.

For those fancying another refreshment, there are cupholders located in the rear center console. The party piece of these is that they can be heated and cooled.
Let's face it, those purchasing this car expect the best, they certainly won't compromise. These cupholders ensure their drinks are kept at the perfect temperature.
Image is a big part of this car's appeal, buyers want to be noticed. To achieve this, Mercedes have incorporated a number of unique styling features into the car's design. The most distinctive feature is the optional two-tone paint option, it is a must for the car, as it really separates it from a standard GLS.
Similarly, the car has a unique grille design featuring defined vertical slats and the Maybach name. The car's massive 23-inch wheels also draw the eye and are a Maybach exclusive design. A number of Maybach logos can also be found around both the exterior and interior of the car.

As standard, the car is fitted out with a 27 speaker Burmester Audio System. The speakers produce a combined 1600w of power, with a number of them mounted on the roof lining to produce a three-dimensional experience. The sound can even be personalized to the preference of the passenger sitting underneath, via VIP customization.
The "Acoustic Comfort Pack" helps insulate the cabin from the outside world. This is mainly achieved through the application of an acoustic film mounted on laminated safety glass. In addition to impeding noise, the glass prevents the car from heating up too much.
As well as the driving modes regular Mercedes GLS drivers will be familiar with, there is a dedicated "Maybach mode". Whist individual, sport, and comfort can still be chosen, the "Maybach Mode" improves the level of comfort and refinement for passengers.
Firstly, the car will automatically choose second gear when pulling away, this helps reduce any unwanted jerks and sudden movement. Similarly, the mode softens the curve of acceleration making for a more linear and predictable response. The number of gear changes is also minimized and the car's start-stop system is disengaged.
Bumpy roads are not too much of an issue in this car; in fact, they are even of benefit. The car is able to harvest energy from the car's suspension, as the wheels oscillate up and down over an uneven surface, energy is recovered and fed back into the mild hybrid system.
Attached to the mild hybrid system is a twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8. The engine produces 558 hp, with an additional 22 hp generated by the electric motor. 0-60 mph takes 4.9 seconds, and the car can go on to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
Another clever feature of the car's sophisticated air suspension system, is something known as "Free Driving Mode". This slightly oddly named feature is reminiscent of lowriders.
The feature is utilized on the Maybach to aid off-road performance. Should the car get stuck, it will rock back and forwards to help free itself.
The car is undeniably a high riding and imposing vehicle, this is part of its charm. However, this does create the downside that entry and exit can be a challenge for many people.
Thankfully, to address the issue, Mercedes have devised a setting that when selected automatically lowers the car via its air suspension. Automatically deployable side steps also go a long way to solving the issue.
