This is where to see the star-studded skies
Telescopes at the ready! Lincoln has been crowned the best location in the UK for garden stargazing, new research has found.
Whether you're a beginner or avid astronomer, the summer nights are full of stargazing fun. To help you find the perfect starry skies, The Paint Shed has analysed several factors such as air pollution, light pollution, private gardens and precipitation right around the UK.
While Lincoln took the top spot, Wigan in the North West came in second place, boasting the least amount of rain across all locations. Meanwhile, Boston in the East Midlands came third, although it did not come in at the top for any individual factor. Anglesey in Wales, Harrogate and Chichester also made the top 20 thanks to their low levels of air pollution.
"Some will want to take advantage of the warmer nights by spending the evening gazing at the stars, but some locations have a better chance of viewing the night sky than others," the researchers say. "You don't have to go far to experience the wonders of the universe - sometimes just outside your back door is far enough to see incredible things in the sky…"
